As Houston schools begin to open, on 8/12/06, West Side Social Services was on hand to distribute back-to-school items to the less privileged kids on Houston’s west side.
The charitable event took place at West Side Social Services offices at 1315 South Dairy Ashford and the items handed out to the excited and grateful kids included books, pencils, pens, crayons, school bags and other scholastic materials.
Elaine Henriques’ a director at the social program said, “It was memorable to see the smiles and happy faces of the children and to see my six year old handing out small booklets to the children”.

. West Side Social Services, a charitable arm of New Zion Christian Church was established in June 2004 and has since expanded its compassionate reach- thanks to the charitable gifts in kind and cash from New Zion Christian Church members and a few other community donors.
West Side Social Services opens on Wednesday and Friday every week and an average of 270 individuals walk through its doors and receive much needed food and other material support
