Food Bank Continues Community Impact

Recent data statistics revealed that the state of Texas is 4th in the nation when it comes to people who experience hunger. 498,800 individuals in the Houston area need assistance with food each year. 1 in 5 children in Harris County live at or below the poverty level. More than 727,000 Gulf Coast residents live in poverty.

The Food Bank of New Zion was established in June 2004 as a separate organization to address some of these needs.

The food bank serves an average of 270 individuals each month.  Each family is eligible to receive help 2 times each month. They are supplied with groceries to last at least 2 weeks based upon the number of people in the household.  As of December 2005 we have served over 8031 individuals.
